Gerald moves home

Gerald moves home

21 July 2010

Too big to get through the doors of their new gallery, Gerald, our much loved giraffe, along with the elephant and the tiger, will have to be lowered in through the roof.

With the major structural work complete, the contractors are now concentrating on the installation of mechanical and electrical fittings, glazing, flooring and, as the first galleries near completion, painting. The roofing of one gallery also remains: the roof of Gerald’s new home – a gallery featuring a fascinating mix of iconic objects from RAMM’s collections.

Throughout all the upheaval of the redevelopment Gerald and his friends have been resting in the old natural history gallery, carefully crated to protect them from the dust, vibrations and other hazards around them. This summer they will be unpacked, taken outside, securely repacked and craned into their new home through a hole in the roof.
