Woody the Rhynchosaur donated to RAMM

17 January 2008

240 Million years ago, when Devon was a desert close to the equator, it was inhabited by Rhynchosaurs, massive lizard-like reptiles with huge claws and beak like snouts.

Known from fossils found in the red cliffs between Exmouth and Sidmouth, RAMM has the partial remains of Rhynchosaur skeletons in its collection. It now has life size model that will bring its Triassic display to life. The model has been made available by Clinton Devon Estates and the East Devon Pebblebed Heath Conservation Trust. Woody, as the Rhynchosaur is know, will be included in the RAMM fossil display in the new "Dina's Lost World" Adventure Area at Crealy Park during the Museum redevelopment.

"Dinosaurs are firm favourites, especially with our younger guests and 'Woody' is particularly well loved as even little children can see him up close! We are really pleased that RAMM have entrusted us with looking after Woody as he fits in perfectly amongst our Triceratops, Pterandon, T-Rex and Spinosaurus."

Angela Wright, MBE, Managing Director of Crealy

"This wonderful life-size model Rhynchosaur is a welcome addition to RAMM's collections. It will add further life to our displays, developing and broadening interest in Devon's fascinating past. We are delighted that this superb reproduction will continue to be displayed locally."

Julien Parsons, Collections and Information Officer at RAMM
