RAMM has a varied collection of objects and paper documents which reflect everyday life for local residents from the 17th century.

Highlights of the collection include:

Armour and weapons from the Rougemont Castle Armoury.  These were used to equip soldiers to defend Exeter.  Most are quite closely datable; many were bought during two great panics in Exeter's history: the threat of the Spanish Armada 1588 and the Civil War in the 1640s.

The Hedgeland Model of Exeter in 1769.  This large model, 2.5m by 1.5m, was built by a local builder Caleb Hedgeland.  It depicts the city in great detail as he remembered it from his childhood.

A sledge used in Captain Scott's ‘Terra Nova' (1910-1913) expedition to Antarctica.  Also in the collection is the collar belonging to Czigane, one of the expedition's dogs.

If you are interested in finding out more about your local history or have an object that you want to know more about please contact RAMM.
