Neil Bollen, Metals Conservator
I work on items that have been chosen for the new displays ranging from fine gold jewellery to rusty iron cooking impliments and a wide range of objects in between.
How I ended up at RAMM
I have been interested in the museum, particularly the local silver collection since moving to Devon many years ago and have been fortunate to work in the museum on and off over the past 12 years.
Best part of my job
Being able to handle the objects and study them close up to see how they have been made. Rediscovering interesting items in the stores that have been forgotten about and learning about areas of the collection that I had not encountered before.
A funny thing happened...
Setting the fire alarms off and having the building evacuated by the fire brigade while doing a little 'hot work'.
What I'm looking forward to seeing/doing in the refurbished museum
Continuing to work with the collections and discovering new information about them.
If you see me in the museum, ask me....
What I am working on at the moment.
