Sophie Yarde-Buller – Exhibitions Officer
I recently joined the Exhibitions Team at RAMM in a temporary maternity cover post.
How I ended up at RAMM
I have always been interested in museums. As a child I often rearranged my prize possessions (mostly fossils and dolls from around the world) into exhibitions, which my family then had to visit and admire. However, I never became a collector as an adult; my father’s record collection completely took over the house to the point where there were even records in the bathroom, so perhaps that put me off!
I have a wide range of interests and love that RAMM’s collections and exhibitions encompass such a range of disciplines. My educational background is quite varied. I started studying anthropology at Glasgow University, then swapped to German and philosophy, then to Fine Art at Oxford University. Most recently I completed an MA at the University of Exeter focusing on community arts and applied theatre.
In my professional life I have worked for the Crafts Council, the V&A, taught English abroad, moved into Further Education, publishing, illustration and managed a language school.
Best part of my job
I think RAMM is the perfect place for a magpie like me and am thrilled to be here helping to create interesting and engaging exhibitions for the citizens of Exeter and beyond.
