The Leventis Project

Greek pottery mask

RAMM's Greek and Cypriot archaeology collection contains around 500 objects from Neolithic stone tools to Roman period glass. Funding from the AG Leventis Foundation is enabling staff and volunteers to conserve, photograph and research these collections.

What's in the collections?

RAMM has a fine collection of Cypriot and Greek antiquities donated to us in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Many of the objects were donated by two local collectors - Claude Delaval Cobham, and Leopold Montague.

Much of RAMM's collection is of 'Classical' objects - fine pottery and metal objects from classical Greece and Cyprus. You can see many of these objects in our Ancient Worlds gallery but many more metal, glass, stone and pottery objects remain in our stores.

The Leventis Project

The Leventis project began in April 2012 to improve access to these collections. Volunteers have been recruited to photograph objects - photos which you'll be able to see on this webpage over the coming months. Other volunteers are starting to transfer information from old paper catalogues into our Collections Database. RAMM's Conservators and trainee conservators are repacking the collections in store, and conserving objects to make them suitable for display in the future.
