Double Elephant wins Art Show
26 October 2017
The votes have been counted and, by a small margin, Double Elephant has won the Express & Echo Local Art Show 2017. Their work will be on display at RAMM from December 13 to January 17, 2018.
High quality artwork
Multimedia Journalist Anita Merritt said “This year was definitely the best for standard of entries and number of votes. The art groups really got behind the competition this year”. The Dartmoor theme was announced in January allowing groups nine months to prepare their work. Of the nine groups which entered, five were shortlisted. Presented in the Express & Echo newspaper, readers voted for their favourite.
The Local Art Show 2017 winner
Based in the Phoenix Arts Centre, Double Elephant Print Workshop has over 100 artist members from Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset. They offers courses, resources and support to professional printmakers, artists and beginners alike.
There were nine entries: 21 Group of Artists, Alphington Art Group, Bovey Tracey Society of Artists and Kenn Art Group and the five shortlisted groups: Dartmoor Photographers, Double Elephant, Exe Artists and Creatives Hub (EAACH), Topsham Art Group and Wayward Art Group.
This year’s Local Art Show complements RAMM’s main winter exhibition, Dartmoor: A Wild and Wondrous Region. The exhibition traces artists’ portrayal of Dartmoor, once described as a dreary mountainous tract and later as the epitome of the picturesque.
Previous winners of the Express & Echo Local Art Show are: Flying Colours (2016), Topsham Art Group (2015), Sense (2014), Hive Art Group (2013) and Fairstream Arts (2012).
