Devon Landscapes

From the Museum's permanent collections.

The beauty and variety of the Devonshire landscapes has inspired many artists and numerous paintings and drawings in the museum's collection reflect this fascinating history.

Artists featured in the exhibition included notable visitors such as JMW Turner, Francis Darby and Thomas Rowlandson, as well as artists who have lived  and worked in Devon for a large part of their careers, including Francis Towne, John White Abbott and Thomas Luny. From the late 18th century onwards, these works also convey the ever changing character of the landscape itself.
