From Devon to Delhi - A RAMM display
Fresh eyes on hidden objects. RAMM has been inviting people who have moved here from near and far behind the scenes to tell us their responses to objects from the collections. See what emerged in words and photographs.
Our city has always been linked to the rest of the world, through trade and travel, and RAMM’s collections reflect that. People come to Exeter for all sorts of reasons – to work, study, retire or following family. These displays connect RAMM’s objects with the communities that make up Exeter today.
Some of the words and pictures shine light on artefacts that have never been displayed, while others provide a new perspective on objects you might remember. Some comments provide new information, some find unpredictable parallels between different cultures and faraway places, while others recall far-off times. All of them help to bring RAMM’s objects to life in a new way.
The exhibition can be viewed in the University’s newly refurbished music building, Kay House Duryard. Details of its programme of musical events can be found at www.exeter.ac.uk/campusservices/music/
Open Fridays and Saturdays, 12 noon to 6pm (closed Saturday 5 Nov and from 17 to 31 Dec inclusive).
The Moving Here project was been supported by Renaissance, the government’s programme for regional museums, and the displays are presented in partnership with the Arts & Culture Team at the University of Exeter.
