Taking Part

Taking Part

As part of the Moving Here project, RAMM invited people who had moved to Exeter from near and far the chance to come behind the scenes at the museum and get close to objects in our collections.

Moving Here has come to an end for now, but the museum is still keen to hear from people and groups who might like to collaborate on future projects.

Who’s invited?

Would you be interested in taking part in a new phase of Moving Here, if we get funding to continue and develop the project? You don’t have to be an expert on anything. We just want to talk to people who have moved to Exeter from other places.

Did you come because of a job? Or to be close to family? Whether you’re on your own or part of a community group, we’d love to meet you.

Maybe you have a story to tell us about African beads or Scottish birdsong. Perhaps you’d like to see a painting of Exeter as it was two centuries ago, or touch a Roman coin found in the city you now call home.

You don’t have to speak good English - we can arrange an interpreter to help.

Why?

We think your experiences of other times, places and ways of life give you a fresh and valuable perspective on our collections.

We’d like to record and share your stories, ideas and feelings about the objects you see. We’ll publish them on our new online catalogue of the museum’s collections. We have already collected comments on hundreds of objects, and now anyone can join in online.

Get in touch

RAMM is looking into ways (and funding) to continue and develop Moving Here. The plan is to incorporate digital literacy training and encourage inter-community volunteering, to give participants the skills and confidence to interact online directly with the museum’s websites and collections. Through tagging, groups and individuals could then curate online exhibitions relevant to their own interests and experiences.

If you or a group you know would be interested in taking part in this project or any other future collaborations with the museum, we’d like to hear from you. To find out more, contact Penny Hammond on 01392 665306 or email penny.hammond@exeter.gov.uk
