The Express & Echo has announced the winner of their competition for local art groups and societies. Having received more votes from Express & Echo readers than the other three shortlisted groups, Fairstream Arts will now present their work at an exhibition at RAMM from 22 November and 5 December 2012.

Jude Freeman, the founder of Fairstream Arts said: “Thanks to everyone who voted for us. We’re absolutely thrilled to have been chosen. It is a real privilege to show our work in such beautiful surroundings. We hope that this will inspire others and if you would like to join us email naomihart@yahoo.co.uk.”

Set up in response to the needs of both established artists and those new to art practice, Fairstream Arts has in the last year alone involved over 250 participants. With an age range spanning five decades, these artist/makers hail from all walks of life, including a farmer, a meteorologist and hospital staff.

Fairstream Arts is based at Hope Hall, a Victorian former chapel near the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. Their studio is a welcoming and inspiring space, described by locals as ‘one of Exeter’s hidden gems.’ Activities include beginners drawing classes; studio days where individuals can paint, print-make, draw etc; special workshops e.g. in bookbinding and keeping a travel journal; and regular costume life/portraiture days.

Open to all arts groups and societies that draw their members from the Exeter area, seven groups entered the Express & Echo competition. Four reached the shortlist: Art Haven, Magic Carpet, Farringdon Society of Arts and the winner, Fairstream Arts.
