Volkhardt Müller is preparing a provocative, quirky, fascinating work for Any High Street, a new exhibition starting at RAMM on 30 June.

He draws on a range of media and techniques, including printmaking, video, 3D installation and performance and thanks to the Guildhall Shopping Centre you can see him working. The centre has allowed him to work on the first floor in the Higher Market Gallery in the unit that formerly housed Eldritch Games. Volkhardt works most days 9am to 6pm and he’ll be there until early July. The best way to get to Higher Market Gallery is up the stairs on the left of the Queen Street entrance of WH Smiths.

Volkhardt’s new work takes the people and places of Exeter as inspiration to make objects that capture and condense the movements of the city. His observations cast a light on contemporary life in Exeter and beyond. They are the results of a quiet surveillance of public spaces, both disturbing and melancholic as well as revelatory.

Volkhardt is very pleased with the space provided: “The light’s good, it’s central, it’s close to RAMM and it’s big enough to accommodate the scale of the work. The Guildhall Shopping Centre management has been very generous and uncomplicated.”
