Ben Clapp – Museum Assistant
I work with all the teams in the museums, primarily on Front of House duties, but I also work with exhibitions and conservation, and doing a good deal of work with our Audio Visual (AV) Equipment, including setting up lectures.
How I ended up at RAMM
After training to be a Primary School History teacher at the University of Plymouth due to my life long love of History, and needing a little temporary work for a few months, I ended up at RAMM and have yet to leave!
Best part of my job
The sheer variety work in the museum is easily the best part of the job for me. One day I may be giving a guided tour at one of our sites, the next I may be moving a Grizzly Bear! How can that not be fun?
A funny thing happened…
The knowledge that I once spent several hours lifting a couple of Antique Pianos up some very steep stairs…Well I suppose it would be funny to anyone who was watching us!
What I like most about RAMM
Certainly the Local History galleries for me. Having lived in Exeter all my life and having a reasonably good knowledge about its history from an awful lot of reading, I am excited to see all our colourful history be brought to life once more. It also includes the Hedgeland Model of Exeter in 1769 – my favourite museum object.
If you see me in the museum, ask me….
Can you tell me anything about the history of Exeter, young sir? And don’t spare the details.
