RAMM wins platinum award
12 March 2019
RAMM won the top accolade at the 2019 Exeter Living Awards.
The museum won the Leisure and Tourism Award and then the overall Platinum Award for best category. Commenting on the museum’s entry, the judges said: “We were truly blown away by RAMM’s submission: the quality and range of work, and the sheer number of people who have enjoyed its offering. Here’s to another 150 years!”
The award ceremony
Over 500 people representing businesses and organisations from across the city attended the glittering award ceremony in Exeter University’s Main Hall on Thursday 7 March. There were 22 award categories ranging from arts to technology. The event was hosted by sports pundit and former rugby union player David Flatman and Greg Ingham, Chief Executive of MediaClash.
On presenting the awards, the judges declared that RAMM was “an extraordinary place celebrating 150 years of sparking curiosity in both young and old. We can all be proud of this world class attraction in Exeter.”
Cllr Rachel Sutton, Portfolio Holder for Economy and Culture, Exeter City Council, said, “We are delighted that RAMM’s work in the city has been recognised. 2018 was a truly special year for the museum as it celebrated its 150th year at the centre of arts and culture in Exeter and Devon.
“RAMM has touched the lives of so many people of all ages, interests and abilities and in 2018, the museum went above and beyond to connect with the people of Exeter, taking events out into the streets, into the Cathedral, into residential homes and even into local pubs with our anniversary beer, Albert’s Ale!
“It has been a year of rejoicing in the old and the new, celebrating the museum’s heritage while continuing to strive for a better, more inclusive, more spectacular RAMM.”
The award was presented to Exeter City Council Director Jon-Paul Hedge, Cllr Rachel Sutton, Museums Manager and Cultural Lead Camilla Hampshire, RAMM Development Officer Claire Bailey and Museum Assistant Jamie Palmer.
