2 May 2018
Download the map and visit the Roman City of Exeter with Minecraft. This is a great way to see the city in the 5th-century AD at end of the Roman Empire. You can walk where the Romans did and go in their fine buildings. The map includes links to Roman objects excavated in the city. Players can use these to find out more about the objects in the game.
Use Minecraft to get creative and make your own version of the Roman city once you’ve downloaded the map. Help with downloading the Roman maps is on the Exeter Time Trail Minecraft page.
You can also see some of the objects from the Roman city in the Making History Gallery.
Roman Exeter – A Place in Time
This map is part of the A Place in Time Project with Exeter and Reading universities . It is assessing the archaeological finds made in Exeter in the 1970s and 1980s. The project’s new discoveries and interpretation link to places in the Minecraft map.
Stephen Rippon, Professor of Landscape Archaeology, said:
‘Exeter has a fascinating Roman history but unfortunately there is very little of it that is visible today. Hopefully this new Minecraft map will help bring Roman Exeter to life in a new and innovative way’.
